Founder

CMeXs was founded in 2023 by Mario Claeys, an expert in the field of exchange trading, clearing management and market surveillance.

His longstanding career started in sales and trading of energy commodities for various international energy companies. Mario was part of the management team of ENDEX Energy Derivatives NV (now Ice ENDEX) where he was responsible for the market surveillance and operations department from the start of this regulated exchange. After succesfully managing the integration of the regulated derivatives part into APX ENDEX in 2008, he also headed the operational department for the spot markets. In 2010, he joined E.On Energy Trading, that is nowadays known as Uniper Global Commodities SE, were he was responsible for the exchange, clearing and margining business for more than 13 years.

His expertise goes far beyond the daily business as proven by his seats in various risk committees of industry leading CCP’s like IceClear, BME Clearing and OmiClear. He is also frequently asked by the media to comment expert topics and as speaker at industry summits on topics like clearing impact, CCP risk, the role of the exchange during stressed markets etc. Since June 2024 Mario is member of the Supervisory Board of the European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC) and also member of the ECC Risk Commitee.

Over 20 years of experience in the exchange and clearing environment have resulted in a wide network that covers all kind of disciplines within the industry and across the globe: (Eastern) Europe, Nordic, UK, USA, South America.

His no-nonsense, efficiency focussed but also entrepreneurial foresight combined with a solution oriented analytical approach of challenging situations helped him to build a strong record of achievements. Also his role in the energy market turmoil in the years 2021-2022, where his profound knowledge but also his achievements of building of a well-structured operational environment in combination with a ‘best in class’ clearing setup, was one of his key contributions in protecting a major German energy company.
